Jennifer Spaulding - Soprano

Jennifer was born in Oshawa, Ontario but has lived in Kitchener, Ontario for almost all of her 27 years. She has always been heavily involved in musical activities, beginning when she was little and sang in the Chapel Choir of Trinity United Church where she remains an active member and musical participant. Jennifer began to join school choirs in grade school, and had the opportunity to compete on a couple occasions at Canada’s Wonderland, and make recordings at the Drayton Festival Theatre. She began her piano training just before she turned nine, and later did a year of organ training with Douglas Haas. Jennifer received her Grade Eight Certificate in Piano through the Royal Conservatory. She also studied voice for several years with Stephanie Kramer. She enjoyed a long-standing affiliation with the Music Alive Choral Organization, beginning in the Kidz Choir, moving up the ranks to the Youth and Adult Choirs, and then taking on a leadership role for both of these choirs as Director of the Youth Choir and as Music Educator and occasional director for the Adult Choir. Dr. Alfred Kunz, the director and founder of the Music Alive Choral Organization, has always been an encouraging mentor for Jennifer, and has allowed her many leadership opportunities. With this organization she toured the major cities of Italy in July 2001 as a soloist and choir member. Some of the other highlights of Jennifer’s musical journey include solo work at the Centre in the Square in Kitchener, premiering works written for her by Alfred Kunz, including 'Contemplation' and 'Daniel, Canticle 3: Blessed Are You', and any time she gets to sing with her husband, Chad, or her father, Brian! She is featured on several non-Beyond Bliss albums, including “Pie Jesu: Songs of Intimacy”, “Like a Child”, “Stand by Me”, “Mysterium” and “Then and Now”. She currently sings with the Da Capo Chamber Choir under the direction of Leonard Enns. She also provides private music instruction for voice, piano and theory. Jennifer has an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo, where she majored in Music as part of the Arts and Business program, and a Bachelor of Education degree from The University of Western Ontario. She currently teaches English at her former high school, Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate & Vocational School, and lives with her husband Chad in Kitchener.
